Always
play your game like a gentleman. Do not be tempted towards the Dark
Side. Your finest experiences in golf will come where you and your
opponent/s play to the best of your technical ability whilst enjoying
each other’s skills – allowing you to enjoy the sport in its purest
form. Remember,
you are actually attempting to play the course better than your
opponent.
If your
opponent plays a great shot, acknowledge it. This does not mean you
should over-praise, patronise or boost the opposition’s ego, simply
offer respect for their ability.
Promoting
a pleasant environment in which to play is hugely advantageous. If it
can be achieved, you will find it much easier to relax and concentrate –
your game will flow.
Even if
your opponent is grumpy or unsociable, the fact that you conduct
yourself in a gentlemanly manner gives you the moral high ground –
something that can in itself undermine an unfriendly individual.
Some
people need to adopt a slightly aggressive attitude in order to psych
themselves up for competition. It therefore follows that if the
environment in which they play is relaxed this can deprive them of the
very thing they need – tension.
Presenting yourself as a pleasant individual also defeats the need some
people have to ‘hate’ their opponent. If your opposition can’t dislike
you then you give them no edge.
Keep your game simple,
don't try and use clever 'off putting' tactics and enjoy the game for
the challenge it is.
Enjoying golf in the purest possible form
will enhance the sensation of success greatly. |
