On the
Way
-
Maintain
a calm attitude.
-
Avoid thinking too much about the day
to come.
-
Avoid
things that might stress you.
-
Practice
relaxation (and/or
distraction)
techniques.
Many
people find listening to music useful en-route. Not only is it soothing,
it’s a good way to temporarily distract your mind from the forthcoming
event. Furthermore, it is a good opportunity to practice focusing
techniques by listening deeply to the various instruments (for this
technique refer to
Learn to Focus).
It has
been discovered that the type of music you listen to prior to an event
can affect your mindset for the day.
For
example:
-
Soothing
music may reduce your heart rate, relaxing you and leaving you feeling
mellow. This might be useful if you are getting prematurely stressed,
or if you prefer to operate in a very calm environment.
-
Heavy or
powerful music can have the effect of psyching you up, increasing your
heart rate and giving you ‘attitude’.
Preferences will differ. Be careful to monitor which works best for you.
