Take
ownership
Take
ownership of your situation.
If you make
a mistake, it’s your mistake. It’s not the putter’s fault. Do not
punish your driver because the ball has hooked into the woods. And the bag
– it was only sitting there watching before you clobbered it! It’s not the
fault of the club that you happen to be
its
owner!
If the
result does not resemble the intention there is nothing to be achieved by
throwing your toys out of your pram! It was your mistake, own up to it.
When you
loose your rag you allow your entire system to enter freefall. Just about
every critical function within you is allowed to run wild. The result can
be catastrophic.
-
Massive
adrenaline release – causing muscle tightening, increased heat rate etc.
(refer to
what is
happening to you)
-
Resulting
release of energy – wasting your most precious resource.
-
A flood
of negativity – affecting rational thought process.
With
absolutely nothing to gain and everything to loose, why would you want to
do this to yourself? And what’s more, you’ll look pretty silly
too!
Unless you
take ownership of a mistake you are effectively blaming some external
influence over which you claim no control. This is negative thinking,
leaving you with a situation you are unable to fix.
If your
ball rolls into a divot, lands under the lip in a bunker or gets stuck
behind a tree, it got there courtesy of you. It might not be great,
but it’s what you’ve got – so get on with it.
If a double
bogey goes on your card, deal with it. It’s yours. Nothing can change
that.
Taking
ownership of a situation allows you to deal with it and confirms you are
still in control. It is a positive belief allowing you to move on. |
