At the
Club
You have
arrived at your office, the place where you will do business, taking on
competitors and course alike.
This is
the moment where uncontrollable distractions are most dangerous. They
will begin to come at you from all directions.
It is
highly likely you’ll bump into friends who will want a chat. That’s
fine, social interaction is a perfectly natural. But you must adopt a
professional approach. Have your chat, a laugh and a joke if you feel
the need, but keep it real. Skylarking is not recommended. It is all too
easy to literally destroy your day at the outset if you loose sight of
your purpose. Excessive laughing and joking can undo all your
preparations and make it extremely difficult to return your mental state
to match readiness.
Are you
there socially or to do business? Set your expectations accordingly.
A typical
routine
-
Sign
in. Confirm your start point and tee time.
-
Get the
social stuff out of the way.
-
Proceed
to practice area and follow your practice routine*.
-
Pre-match routine.
-
Proceed
to tee in good time.
* As soon
as your practice session starts, so does your competitive day. Do not
combine social activities with your practice. Trying to do so makes
practice pointless. This is the moment where the serious stuff begins,
where you rehearse your skills. In order to rehearse effectively you
need to focus and use visualisation – any distraction will make visual
imagery virtually impossible.
